LEARNING
NOT TO FORGET:
In this age
of unlimited access to information, getting information is never the problem
but what to do with the numerous information that we have access to. Mastery is
not in knowledge but in wisdom - applications of knowledge.
Learning
is not complete until what has been acquired is retained and applied. Knowledge
easily forgotten loses its value, while lessons remembered shape character,
decisions, and growth. “Learning not to forget” is therefore a discipline of
the mind and heart—anchoring truths, experiences, and insights so they can
guide us in the future. It calls for attentiveness, reflection, and consistent
practice, ensuring that wisdom is not only gained but preserved, and that
important lessons are not lost in the busyness of life. Let us have a quick
recap.
1. To the Christian, prayer is a required form of communication with
God the Father through Jesus Christ His Son, with the aid of the Holy Spirit.
Having this knowledge, how should we approach God, and what can we expect to
happen as we make our requests known?
INSPIRATIONS:
Approach prayer with reverence and with
expectation or faith (Hebrews 11:6).
Prayers should be submissive to the will of
God.
Prayer is not only presenting petitions or
asking for favors.
Prayer is also a time to thank God with honor
and praise.
REVIEW QUESTIONS:
Am I a Christian? – Christ-like

communication to me or a dreaded duty?

since learning about prayer?
What are the better approaches that I
have embraced?

Reverence and Faith: When we approach God in prayer, we should do so with a heart full of
faith and reverence. Acknowledge His sovereignty and holiness.
"Let us therefore come boldly unto the
throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of
need." (Hebrews 4:16)
Humble Heart: It is essential to approach God with humility, recognizing our
dependence on Him for guidance and strength. God resists the proud but gives
grace to the humble.
"Humble yourselves
in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up." (James 4:10)
Be Persistent in Prayer: We should remain persistent in our prayers, trusting that God hears us
and will respond in His timing. This perseverance reflects our faith and
commitment.
"And
he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and
not to faint;" (Luke 18:1)
Expect God to Respond According to
His Will: As we make our requests known, we
should understand that God’s responses may not always align with our desires.
We can trust that He will answer in accordance to His great wisdom and
purpose.
"And this is the confidence that we
have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth
us:" (1 John 5:14)
2. God’s call to us regarding some specific service we are to do for
Him may not come by dramatic revelation. We may even question whether it is
really God calling us, or just our own ideas and inclinations pointing us in a
certain direction. How can we be sure that what we perceive to be God’s call is
really from Him? See John 7:17 and 1 Corinthians 14:32.
INSPIRATIONS:
Any directive believed to be from the Lord
must align with Scripture.
God often confirms His call through others.
If a leading matches Scripture and the
guidance of spiritual authorities, one can be assured God is directing.

Seek God's Will: Cultivating a genuine relationship with God through prayer and Scripture
can help us discern His voice. The willingness to do His will can clarify His
calling in our lives.

3. In the Word of God we find that God has three initial experiences
for the Christian. They are a foundation to prepare him for his walk of faith
here on earth. Briefly explain each of these experiences and describe what they
do in the life.
INSPIRATIONS:
Salvation:
Brings forgiveness of sins.
Removes guilt.
Makes a person a new creature in Christ (1 John 1:9; 2 Corinthians
5:17).
Sanctification / Heart purity:
Results from a fully consecrated life.
Removes the root of sin from one’s nature.
Jesus prayed His followers would receive this (John 17:17).
Baptism of the Holy Ghost:
Gift of power.
Enables one to be a successful witness for the Gospel (Acts 1:8).
REVIEW QUESTIONS:

experiences?

of the Holy Spirit)
Do I have the witness within?
Do I have the evidence/fruit of each
of these experiences in my life?

1. The Experience of Salvation
(Justification)
Salvation takes care of our sinful past. The Spirit bears witness with
our spirit – witness from above and witness within. The greatest evidence is
sinless life and absence of condemnation.
Romans 8:16 The Spirit
itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Romans 8:1 There is
therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not
after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2. The Experience of Sanctification:
Sanctification uproots
the natural sin and human nature. Jesus prayed for his disciples to receive it
and it is available for us today. It ensures entire sanctification and oneness
with God and His children.
John 17:19 And for their
sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
John 17:17 Sanctify them
through thy truth: thy word is truth.
John 17:21 That they all
may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be
one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
3. Baptism of the Holy Spirit
Indwelling of the Holy Spirit –
performing the work of a Comforter, Teacher and Spiritual Capacity.
Evidence is a life controlled and
maintained by the Holy Spirit and a strong desire to work for God and His
Kingdom.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall
receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be
witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and
unto the uttermost part of the earth.

1. Daily Prayer and Communion with God
Regular prayer strengthens our
relationship with God and helps us seek His guidance, protection, and strength
in the face of spiritual battles.
Make prayer a daily priority, asking God for strength, wisdom, and the
ability to discern the enemy's tactics. This sustains your spirit and keeps you
connected to His power.
"Pray without
ceasing." (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
2. Consistent Study and Meditation on
Scripture
The Word of God is a powerful weapon against the lies and deceptions of
the enemy. It equips us with truth and wisdom to counteract spiritual attacks.
Set aside time daily to read, meditate on, and memorize Scripture. This
builds your foundation in truth and arms you to confront doubts or temptations.
"Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that
I might not sin against thee." (Psalm 119:11)
3. Wearing the Full Armor of God

armor that believers should do to protect themselves from the enemy's schemes.

armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the
devil." (Ephesians 6:11)

Regularly attend church services,
participate in small groups, and maintain friendships with fellow believers who
can pray with you and support your spiritual growth.
"Not forsaking the assembling of
ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so
much the more, as ye see the day approaching." (Hebrews 10:25)
7. Many instances of true friendship are given to us in the Bible, but
the greatest friendship that ever could be experienced is that of friendship
with our Lord Jesus Christ. He is a Friend to all, but what actions must we
take to ensure an intimate friendship with Him? See John 15:14.
INSPIRATIONS:
To have Jesus as our Friend, we must obey His
commandments.
His commandments are not burdensome (1 John
5:3).
Working in harmony with someone we care for is
natural and agreeable.
Daily practices for friendship with Jesus
include:
Daily communication with Him.
Honoring Him through actions and words.
Showing gratitude.
Being responsive to His love.

Just like any relationship, communication is vital to friendship.
Regular prayer allows us to share our hearts with Jesus and listen for His
guidance.
Set aside specific times for prayer each day, not just for requests but
also to express gratitude, seek wisdom, and enjoy fellowship with Him.
"And ye shall seek me, and find me, when
ye shall search for me with all your heart."

give his life a ransom for many." (Mark 10:45)
8. God’s plan for us may, and often does, call on us to take a stand in
a conspicuous way on some issue. At such times, the enemy is always there to
give us a reason or reasons why going against the flow of peer pressure is
perhaps not the wisest course of action. What is the responsibility of a
Christian when it comes to being “different” in order to make a difference, and
why?
INSPIRATIONS:
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught that
His followers are the “salt of the earth” and the “light of the world” (Matthew
5:13-14).
We must let His love, integrity, and promise
of deliverance shine through our lives.
Failing to do so makes us like salt that has
lost its savor or lights hidden under a bushel.
