KNOWLEDGE

KNOWLEDGE

INTRODUCTION:
Knowledge is power. Either academic, skill or professional know-how. Most importantly, the source of all knowledge – Spiritual knowledge. As we acquire knowledge, it is expected that we do not just acquire to keep but make use of it. It is the knowledge we know and apply that will make us wise and respond to issues of life with wisdom.  This will result in the development of spiritual discernment and intelligence.

Knowledge is the possession of facts, truths, and information—what we learn through study, observation, or experience. Wisdom, however, goes beyond knowing; it is the right and discerning application of knowledge in ways that align with truth, righteousness, and purpose. While knowledge can fill the mind, wisdom directs the life. Knowledge may show us what can be done, but wisdom reveals what should be done. It is wisdom that transforms knowledge into understanding, decisions into discernment, and learning into fruitful living. Without wisdom, knowledge becomes dangerous, prideful, or wasted; but with wisdom, even limited knowledge becomes powerful, productive, and life-giving.

TEXT: Proverbs 2:1-9
KEY VERSE: “Apply thine heart unto instruction, and thine ears to the words of knowledge.” (Proverbs 23:12)

8. For personal thought and meditation, figure the amount of time that you study for general knowledge (school, job, etc.), _____. Then add the time spent in recreation, sleep, etc., _____. Now figure the time spent in study for spiritual knowledge, including Sunday school, church, prayer meetings, daily spiritual study, etc., _____. If your time spent for general knowledge plus time spent in extracurricular activities outweighs the time spent to gain spiritual knowledge, it points out the importance of being sure that the time given for our daily Bible study and worship is quality time. We should also take advantage of each opportunity to worship together and fellowship with those who are of like mind so we can grow spiritually.

KEY POINTS:
Just enough is never enough
“Exceeding abundantly…” in blessings – Apply same in studying and knowing
We know in part - potential need to consistently study
God’s Word is complete and perfect - We need to discover it
God’s Word is dynamic - We need to search and research it
God’s Word is relative -we need to personalize it
God’s Word is deliberate -depending on our current need
To be more is to know more
When we stop studying the word, Spiritual slow death sets in

SEARCH:
Prioritize seeking God first, then let other knowledge flow:
When you put God’s kingdom and Scripture as a first priority, you align all learning and activities under His purposes.
Psalm 1:2-3 : "But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season…"

Scriptural foundation is essential for true knowledge:
General knowledge can be useful, but spiritual knowledge must be grounded in Scripture, which equips for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 : "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

Quality time with God matters more than sheer quantity:
It’s not only how much time you spend, but how biblically focused and Spirit-led that time is—quality worship, prayer, and study produce real transformation.
Colossians 3:23-24 : "And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ."

Fellowship regular worship accelerate spiritual growth
Fellowship with like-minded believers reinforces truth, provides accountability, and creates opportunities to grow together in grace and knowledge.
Hebrews 10:24-25  24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Challenge:
Do a simple audit: Compare your weekly hours spent on general knowledge (school, work, etc.) plus extracurriculars with time spent on spiritual knowledge (Bible study, prayer, church, small groups).
Aim for a measurable shift: For example, if spiritual study currently graces 1 hour per day on weekdays and 2 hours on Sunday, consider adding 15–30 minutes more focused Bible reading or prayer and plan a regular worship or fellowship activity with others midweek.

CONCLUSION: DEEPER STILL

1 Deeper, deeper in the love of Jesus
daily let me go;
higher, higher in the school of wisdom,
more of grace to know.

Refrain:
O deeper yet, I pray,
and higher ev'ry day,
and wiser, blessed Lord,
in Thy precious, holy Word.

2 Deeper, deeper! Blessed Holy Spirit,
take me deeper still,
till my life is wholly lost in Jesus,
and His perfect will. [Refrain]

3 Deeper, deeper! Though it cost hard trials,
deeper let me go!
Rooted in the holy love of Jesus,
let me fruitful grow. [Refrain]

4 Deeper, higher, ev'ry day in Jesus,
till all conflict past
finds me conqu’ror, and in His own image
Perfected at last. [Refrain]
