THANKFULNESS
- Let Us Give Thanks
INTRODUCTION:
“THANK
YOU”
is one of the “magic words” that is fundamental to childhood growth within the
family and among adults in interpersonal relationships. It becomes so familiar that
we may sometimes neglect it. Of a much greater importance is appreciating God
for His grace, mercies and blessings. True thankfulness emanates from a
transformed and regenerated heart – a heart that has tasted the amazing saving
grace of Jesus – Salvation. It is then that opportunity to serve and
consecrations gladden the heart and out of it flow endless praise and
gratitude. An unregenerated heart would take God’s grace, mercies and blessings
for granted, if not claim entitlement to it.
Learning
to give thanks for all things, pleasant and unpleasant is spiritual discipline.
A believer knows his God and has a confidence in Him that all things work
together for good to them that love God. We thank God for what He has done,
what He is doing and even for what he is going to do.
QUESTIONS:
1. The portion of text we are studying is referred to as a “psalm,”
although it is not included in the Book of Psalms. Who was the author? What was
the occasion? See 1 Chronicles 16:1.
1
Chronicles 16:1 1 So they brought the ark of God, and set it in
the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt
sacrifices and peace offerings before God.

APPLICATIONS:
Gratitude
fuels praise, proclaiming God’s deeds to all people:
- Make worship moments (church services, family
worship, corporate prayer) fuel honest praise, not merely routine. Let
gratitude spill over into daily life—speaking of God’s deeds, singing, and
rejoicing in His faithfulness with others.
Challenge:
Start
or join a weekly worshipful practice that explicitly centers on praise—verses,
choruses, and testimonies about God’s faithfulness.
- Share a brief testimony of God’s
faithfulness with at least one person each week, highlighting a specific deed
God has done (deliverance, provision, protection).
Remembering
God’s covenant faithfulness invites obedience and hope:
Challenge
2: Establish
a habit of testifying to God’s faithfulness in a weekly meet-up (family prayer
time, small group, or church gathering)
- Identify an area of life where you can
demonstrate trust in God’s promises (finances, relationships, or decisions) and
enact a concrete step that aligns with His covenant faithfulness.
2. At different times, musicians and singers had been appointed and
used in the worship of the Lord. How were an orchestra and choir used to
express thanksgiving? See 2 Chronicles 5:13.
2
Chronicles 5:13 13 It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as
one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when
they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of
musick, and praised the LORD, saying, For he is good; for his mercy endureth
for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the
LORD;

manifesting God’s glory.”
APPLICATIONS:
Excellence
and unity in corporate worship magnify the glory of God and invite His presence:
Challenge
1: Initiate
or join a structured worship rehearsal that includes both vocal and
instrumental elements.
Worship
is an act of gratitude:
- The choirs and musicians function not only
to entertain, but to unite the people around a shared memory of God’s mercy and
goodness, reinforcing a common identity as God’s people.
- Build worship experiences that tell the story of God’s faithfulness,
encourage participation from diverse groups, and connect singing with witness:
testimonies, responsive readings, and musical selections that highlight God’s
mercies.
3. What verse in the text might be used to explain the reason for
singing and testifying in church? In what way can a testimony be considered
thanksgiving?

because gratitude demands voice, not silence.
Recall
God’s acts often — in private meditation and in public praise.
Encourage
others to join in testimony; communal gratitude multiplies joy.
Let
every song and testimony be a reminder that God’s works deserve our thanks.

singing and testimony are integral to proclaiming God’s works:
- Cultivate regular opportunities in your gatherings to sing with unity
and share brief testimonies of God’s faithfulness.
Challenge:
Invite
someone from outside the church to share in a worship service
Testimony
of God’s faithfulness functions as thanksgiving and strengthens the faith of
others:
- Make testimonies a natural part of worship
life, not only in formal settings but in personal ministries, small groups, and
family gatherings.
Challenge:
Create
a simple template for testimonies (the situation, what God did, and the result
for faith or life) and encourage members to practice using it in casual
conversations as well as worship settings.
How
these lessons apply today:
When
worship emphasizes both singing and testimony about God’s faithfulness, it brings
a culture of gratitude, corporate memory, and mission-minded living. It helps
the church remain oriented toward God’s deeds rather than falling into routine
or consumer-needs worship.
