JESUS, THE INFINITE SON OF GOD

JESUS, THE INFINITE SON OF GOD

INTRODUCTION:
Thank God for Jesus! He came through a lowly birth, to a lowly family and lowly place. Yet Jesus is the infinite Son of God. Jesus Christ was, is, and will always be. This is amazing. He was in our history and past, very much interested in our daily living and ultimately secured a wonderful future and eternity for us.

Jesus Christ is the infinite Son of God - without beginning and without end. He existed before time itself and was present in creation. Though infinite in power, wisdom, and glory, He humbled Himself to dwell among us, bringing God’s love within our reach. Jesus brings the perfect union between humanity, invisible God, and how God desires a personal relationship with every soul.

QUESTIONS
In a few days we will be commemorating the birth of Jesus. To the one who really understands what that means to the world, it is a special time of rejoicing as eternal salvation depends on that wonderful Gift of God (John 3:16). Our text brings out some other remarkable truths concerning Jesus, in that He existed prior to His birth (John 1:1-3), and that one day He will establish a Kingdom that will never end. See Isaiah 9:7.

1. The Child spoken of by the Prophet Isaiah in our text was the earthly manifestation of the Second Person of the eternal Trinity, Jesus. How could the prophet know about the birth of this Child over 700 years before it came to pass? See 2 Peter 1:21.

2 Peter 1:21  21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

KEY POINTS & LESSON INSPIRATIONS:
God knows the end from the beginning - Omniscient
- The fall of man was known and prepared for - Redemption / Messiah
God's word, plan and mission are established - Revealed when due
Prophecies are not will of man but moved by the Holy Ghost

Holy Ghost revealed to Isaiah the events that he prophesied
Isaiah was not the only prophet who prophesied about Christ
- There were over 60 Prophecies concerning Christ’s birth and death
- 12 Prophets spoke these prophecies
- Their predictions all agreed, even though they were said at different times

1. Biblical Prophecy Has One Divine Source:
-Though spoken by many prophets across different centuries, biblical prophecies agree because they originate from God, not human imagination.
- The consistency of prophecy proves divine inspiration.
 2. Prophets Spoke Across Generations, Yet Declared the Same Truth:
-Isaiah prophesied about Christ’s birth over 700 years before it happened, yet his words align perfectly with New Testament fulfillment.
- Time does not weaken God’s word—He speaks with eternal precision.
 3. Prophecy Is Both Precise and Purposeful:
Isaiah did not merely predict a birth, but identified:
- The nature of the child (divine)
- The mission (government and peace)
- The authority (eternal kingdom)
God’s prophecies are detailed because His plans are deliberate.
 4. Multiple Titles Confirm the Identity of the Messiah:
-Isaiah’s prophecy reveals names that perfectly describe Jesus Christ centuries later.
- The accuracy of these titles affirms Jesus’ divine identity.
 5. Fulfilled Prophecy Builds Unshakeable Faith:
-When prophecy is fulfilled exactly as spoken, it strengthens believers’ confidence in God’s promises—past, present, and future.
-What God has fulfilled, He will continue to fulfill.
 6. Prophecy Reveals God’s Sovereignty Over History:
-God declares events before they happen to show that history unfolds according to His plan, not human control.
- God writes history before history happens.
 7. Unity of Prophecy Confirms the Bible’s Reliability:
-Different prophets, in different locations and eras, spoke in harmony because the same Spirit guided them.

IT HAS BEEN SAID:
Prophecy is God speaking ahead of time to prove His sovereignty in time.
The accuracy of prophecy testifies that Scripture is divinely authored.
What men could not coordinate, the Holy Spirit orchestrated.
Fulfilled prophecy is God’s signature on His Word.
Jesus did not fit prophecy by chance—He fulfilled it by divine design.

2. In the first verse of the Gospel of John, to what do you think “In the beginning” refers? What part did Jesus actually have in the creation of the universe?

KEY POINTS & LESSON INSPIRATIONS:
"In the beginning" refers to the beginning of this world
Before anything was formed, Jesus was there as part of Godhead

1. Jesus Existed Before Anything Was Formed:
-Jesus did not come into existence at Bethlehem. He already existed before time, matter, and creation.
“In the beginning was the Word…”  John 1:1
- When creation began, Jesus already was.
 2. Jesus Is Eternal, Not Created:
-The phrase “was” indicates continuous existence, not a starting point.
-Jesus did not begin in the beginning—He was already there when the beginning began.
 3. Jesus Is Distinct Yet United Within the Godhead:
-Jesus is not the Father, yet He is fully God, sharing divine fellowship from eternity.
“…and the Word was with God…”  John 1:1
-The Godhead existed in perfect unity and relationship before creation.
 4. Jesus Is Fully God in Nature:
-Scripture leaves no ambiguity concerning Christ’s deity.
“…and the Word was God.” John 1:1
-Jesus is not merely godlike—He is God.
 5. Jesus Was Actively Involved in Creation:
-Creation did not happen apart from Jesus; He is the divine agent through whom all things came into existence.
“All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:3
-If Jesus created all things, He Himself was not created.

RELEVANT SCRIPTURES:
“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.” — Hebrews 13:8
“Who… thought it not robbery to be equal with God.” — Philippians 2:6
“By whom also he made the worlds.” — Hebrews 1:2
“For by him were all things created…” — Colossians 1:16

Jesus did not begin at Bethlehem; He stepped into time from eternity.
Creation marks the beginning of the universe, not the beginning of Christ.
The hands that formed the world were the hands later pierced for our salvation.
Before light shone, before worlds existed, Jesus was.
If all things were made by Him, He Himself must be eternal.

3. Explain in your own words the meaning of John 1:5.

KEY POINTS & LESSON INSPIRATIONS:
Jesus is the Light of the world
Jesus shines brighter above all lights
This world is darkness - ruled by the prince of darkness, for now
World's darkness can never overpower the Light of God

The world as a whole did not recognize Jesus as the Light of the world
- at His birth and even till now
The world is in darkness because of the sins of the people - choice

1. Light Is Active; Darkness Is Passive:
-Light shines — darkness only exists where light is absent.
“The light shineth in darkness…” — John 1:5
- Darkness never overcomes light; light always confronts darkness.
 2. Darkness Cannot Overcome the Light:
-The word “comprehended” also means overcome or overpower.
“…and the darkness comprehended it not.” — John 1:5
- Darkness may resist the Light, but it can never defeat it.
 3. Jesus Is the True Light:
-This light is not abstract—it is Christ Himself.
“That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.”
John 1:9
- Where Jesus is present, darkness loses its power.
 4. Light Reveals, Exposes, and Gives Life:
-Light exposes what darkness hides and brings clarity and life.
“In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” John 1:4
- Darkness thrives on concealment; light brings truth and freedom.
 5. Darkness Does Not Understand the Light:
-Spiritual darkness cannot recognize or grasp spiritual truth.
“The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God.”
 1 Corinthians 2:14
- Lack of understanding does not mean lack of power in the Light.
 6. Light Continues to Shine Despite Opposition:
-“shineth” implies continuous action.
“The light shineth…” — John 1:5
- No amount of darkness can extinguish the Light of Christ.
 7. We Are Called to Reflect the Light:
-Those who receive Christ are called to shine in a dark world.
“Ye are the light of the world.”  Matthew 5:14
-Light multiplies when it is shared.

IT HAS BEEN SAID:
The Light came into the world quietly, and the world was too loud to notice.
Darkness does not deny the existence of light—it simply cannot perceive it.
The world missed the miracle because it was looking for spectacle.
Jesus was present, but unrecognized; near, but unknown.
Recognition of Christ requires revelation, not reputation.

Darkness does not defeat light; it only reveals its need for it.
One lighted candle is enough to break the power of the darkest room.
Christ’s light does not negotiate with darkness—it overcomes it.
Darkness may deny the Light, but it cannot destroy it.
 Where Jesus reigns, darkness retreats.

4. When Jesus said, “I am . . . the life,” what other attributes did He add to that statement in the following Scriptures?

 John 5:24
-Gracious
- Assuring
- Redeeming
-Eternal life is not only a future hope—it is a present possession.

IT HAS BEEN SAID:
Jesus’ identity is the foundation of our eternity.
What Jesus declares about Himself becomes our assurance for the future.
His promises are not temporary encouragements, but eternal guarantees.
Christ does not merely teach the way—He walks us into eternity.
Our hope is not in circumstances, but in the Person of Jesus.

-Only a living Savior can come again.

A risen Christ is proven by present power, not past memory.
Jesus lives because He still reigns, still saves, and still speaks.
The church worships a living Savior, not a fallen martyr.
